Luke Shaw is reportedly hoping that he will be back playing before the end of the season, according to the Daily Star.

The left-back had surgery on the double leg fracture suffered during the defeat to PSV Eindhoven, and the Star have suggested that he will not be out for quite as long as first feared.

Hector Moreno has apologised for the challenge that led to Shaw’s horrific injury, according to BBC Sport.

The defender – who suffered a similar injury during last year’s World Cup – slid in on the former Southampton man, and has described the incident as an accident.

“I just feel really bad because I was involved in the accident. I feel really sorry,” he said.

Chris Smalling has suggested that the defeat to the Dutch champions was something that the Red Devils will have to learn from, according to the Daily Star.

Louis van Gaal’s side dominated possession, and created more chances, but failed to hold onto the lead that Memphis Depay had given them.

“It’s a very disappointing night. We’ve got a lot to learn,” he said.

United legend Paul Scholes has claimed that the side’s problems are greater than the naivety that Smalling suggested they had, the Daily Mirror report.

The former midfielder claimed that van Gaal has created an unbalanced team, after letting Robin van Persie, Javier Hernandez, and Radamel Falcao leave.

“Van Gaal spoke last year about his squad being unbalanced and I think it’s even more unbalanced now without top strikers,” he claimed.
