Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs cannot wait for the visit of Liverpool on Saturday, and believes that it is the ideal game for the Red Devils following the international break, according to the Daily
“Liverpool is the perfect game to have to come back to after the international break,” he said.
“Old Trafford will be bouncing for a late kick-off. All the players are looking forward to it and I’m sure the fans are too.
“Liverpool is always a special game and it’s even more special when you win, so we can’t wait,” he added.
The international break arguably came at the right time for both sides as it followed their first defeats of the new Premier League season, and gave Louis van Gaal and Brendan Rodgers the opportunity to assess where their respective sides are doing well, and where they need to improve.
And with both sides enjoying eerily similar starts to the new campaign – with two wins apiece being followed by goalless draws before their first losses – the clash at Old Trafford could finally separate the two sides, and provide an indication of what level both teams are performing at.
With neither squad wanting to lose two in a row, or to their most bitter rivals, the game promises to be a cagey affair where one moment of quality – the like of which Giggs often produced throughout his career – could be enough to settle the match.
