Man United star admits Wayne Rooney had to ask who Anthony Martial was

Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has admitted that the Red Devils’ skipper Wayne Rooney had to ask who Anthony Martial was once he heard that the Monaco forward could be on his way to Old Trafford, the Daily Mail report.

The Mail claim that the 19-year-old is on the verge of completing a £36m move, having been given permission from the French Football Federation to leave training with the national side to seal the deal that could rise to as much as £58m.

Despite the incredible fee, Schneiderlin explained that the skipper had no idea about what the 19-year-old was set to bring to Louis van Gaal’s side (via Mail).

“To be honest, yesterday [Sunday] on the plane, Wayne Rooney came to speak to me and asked me who Martial was, because the English press had started to speak,” he said.

‘”I told him he is technical and powerful. A little like Therry Henry, even if it’s the press who are making that comparison,” he added.

Although the former Lyon man has made nearly 50 Ligue 1 appearances for the principality side, it is perhaps only since he was shifted from the wing to a more central role – following the departures of both Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez – that he has come to the attention of many of Europe’s biggest clubs.

And he will be hoping that he can live up to the comparison that Schneiderlin alluded to so no-one else has to ask who Anthony Martial is.
