Arsenal target Edinson Cavani confirms he had chance to leave PSG this summer

Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani has confirmed that he had several opportunities to leave Parc des Princes this summer, but insisted that staying with the Ligue 1 champions was the best option for him, according to the Metro.

“Many transfer opportunities presented themselves,” he explained.

“But PSG has always trusted me. This is the club who can give me what is better,” he added.

The 28-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal during the previous window, and there was even suggestions in the final days of the summer that he could complete a £45m move to the Emirates (via Metro).

Cavani’s admission that he had the chance to leave Laurent Blanc’s side may prove a small comfort to disgruntled Gunners supporters, as it hints that Arsene Wenger tried to bring the Uruguayan to the Premier League, although he fails to confirm whether Arsenal were actually one of the sides that tried to tempt him away.

However, it could also prove to add to supporters’ frustrations as it suggests that – should the north London side have been one of the teams that put an offer on the table – the Gunners did not do enough to convince Cavani that a move to England would be the best decision.

And those frustrations will not have been helped after seeing the start that he has made to the new season. His four goals in five games has sent PSG to the top of the table, and means that he has scored just one less goal than Arsenal’s entire tally so far this campaign.
