Top 10 highest paid players: Man United man tops the list, while Chelsea star sits fourth

While a player’s success is often dependent on whether they manage to justify the transfer fee that was paid to bring them to their respective clubs, their lucrative contracts can also provide an insight into whether they can be considered a success or a big-money flop.

The Daily Mail have reported the eye-watering wages of the top ten highest paid players in the Premier League, which is unsurprisingly made up solely of stars from sides that finished in the top four last season.

Here is the top ten:

terry chelsea

10. John Terry £160,000 a week (Chelsea)

The Blues skipper may have made a slow start to this season, but he remains an integral part of Jose Mourinho’s plans, and that was exemplified as he played every single minute of Chelsea’s title-winning campaign last year.

de bruyne

9. Kevin De Bruyne £170,000 a week (Manchester City)

Manchester City’s latest signing was sensational in the Bundesliga last year, but still has plenty to prove after a challenging time at Chelsea previously. Unfortunately for the Belgian, he’s got to hit the ground running instantly if he wants to justify the money that the Citizens have spent on him.

fabregas chelsea

8. Cesc Fabregas £170,000 a week (Chelsea)

The Spaniard was simply brilliant for much of last season, and finished the campaign with 18 assists. Although he hasn’t made anywhere as good a start this term, he certainly has the quality to turn his, and the Blues’ season around.

sterling man city

7. Raheem Sterling £180,000 a week (Manchester City)

The former Liverpool man has made a promising start to life at the Etihad, bagging one goal and one assist. However, his wages are likely to be met with disgust from Liverpool fans who suspected that money was the motivation behind his desire to leave Anfield. And though the reasons will never be known for certain, Reds fans will say the pay increase he has been awarded with City tells its own story.

ozil arsenal

6. Mesut Ozil £190,000 a week (Arsenal)

Ozil has come in for criticism since his Premier League move, but there is little question of the quality and talent he possesses, and therefore, Gunners fans would say he deserves the money he gets. Although, it could certainly be argued that it is time that he added more goals to his game.
