West Ham target Emmanuel Adebayor now a free agent after being RELEASED by Tottenham

Emmanuel Adebayor’s torrid time at Tottenham is finally over, after the club issued a statement on their official website confirming that they had released the striker.

“We can confirm that we have reached a mutual agreement with Emmanuel Adebayor which will see him released from his contract with the Club,” the statement read.

Despite the closure of the transfer window, the 31-year-old is now free to find a new club (via Daily Mirror), and could well join one of Spurs’ Premier League rivals if summer speculation is anything to go by.

Adebayor was closing in on a move to Aston Villa – which would have seen him linking up with old boss Tim Sherwood – but rejected a Villa Park switch as he wanted to remain in London (via Mirror).

And late talks about a possible move to West Ham also failed to materialise into anything (via Mirror), but both clubs may feel now a free transfer is possible, that they are prepared to go back in with another offer.

However, signing the former Arsenal man would certainly be a gamble. Despite proving his goalscoring ability for Arsenal, Manchester City, and during his loan spell at White Hart Lane – though he has largely failed to reproduce that form since the switch was made permanent – his attitude has come into question, and any side willing to take a chance on him risk upsetting the balance of their side.
