The
The Belgian is expected to earn a substantial pay rise in the new deal (he’s expected too earn around £50,000 per week), that will tie him up with the club until 2020.
The 27-year-old came over from Sunderland in 2013 but has received a lot of crticism from Liverpool fans over the years and for his performances of late, like his far from impressive match in last night’s 3-3 draw with Arsenal.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp came out to defend his goalkeeper, saying The Gunners’ goals were a result of mistakes made by the entire team.
Mignolet has also kept a decent seven clean sheets this season. Only four keepers have done better in this Premier League’s campaign: Petr Cech, Joe Hart, Jack Butland and Heurelho Gomas. He’s recorded 38 clean sheets in 121 total appearances for The Reds.
Still, Liverpool fans took it out in Twitter, stating that they are clearly not happy about the news:
On Simon Mignolet I’ve discovered he looks disturbingly like ol mate Sponge Bob Square Pants. pic.twitter.com/eT4vlpxwLH

With both Mignolet & Bogdan failing to impress, Klopp may fancy a better keeper soon. Here’s a few suggestions. #LFC pic.twitter.com/Q6wF0eWg9P

Mignolet’s set to sign a new contract & his salary will be increased, apparently, to £90k a week. Madness. You don’t reward mediocrity. #LFC
