Victor Valdes’ exit left Manchester United fans feeling sorry for him

Victor Valdes’ tumultuous spell at Manchester United is inching closer to an end. The former Barcelona goalkeeper arrived amidst huge expectations at Old Trafford last year, but he was soon pushed out of the Red Devils’ squad after he fell out of favor with manager Louis van Gaal.

After playing only two games during a year-long spell with the Red Devils, the 34-year-old is set to join Belgian club Standard Liege on a loan deal, according to the BBC.

Last summer, a deal to join Turkish side Besiktas fell through. The Spaniard would prefer to remain in the Premier League, but Newcastle failed to sign him earlier this month because van Gaal is keen for him to move abroad.

Valdes has won the Champions League three times with Barcelona and was part of the Spanish national teams that won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championships.

The goalkeeper bid goodbye to Man Utd fans in an emotonal tweet today, and it left many Red Devils’ fans feeling sorry for him…
