Barcelona might be forced to sell Neymar in the summer

Neymar’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain, claims Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

A number of clubs including the likes of Manchester United and Real are reportedly interested in the services of the 24-year old.

Recently, player’s father, Neymar Sr. claimed in a Spanish court that the Red Devils have even offered to pay the player’s release clause of £140 million to secure his transfer to Old Trafford.

The Catalan club have repeatedly indicated that the Brazilian international is happy at Nou Camp, and the player has no intention of leaving the club, but Balague reveals that the situation is not that simple.

Balague reveals that the Catalan club are unable to offer a new contract to any of their superstars due to their delicate financial conditions and that has left the door open for Neymar to walk out of the club.

He said to Sky Sports: “Barcelona cannot afford to give new contracts to Lionel Messi, Suarez and Neymar as it stands – financially they do not have the power to do so.

“They need to bring a lot of money in if they do that they will be able to keep them, but if they don’t, they may have to get rid of one. That’s why Neymar keeps leaving the door open for United and others.

“The priority is to renew his contract with Barcelona, but no option has been discounted.”

However, Barcelona’s director of football Robert Fernandez has boldly claimed that the Brazilian is happy at Nou Camp, and the club has no reason to worry about his future.

“Neymar and his management are very happy, and we are very relaxed,” Fernandez told Marca. “The club stands by the player. These things happen, and we shouldn’t dwell on it.

“The important thing is that he is happy, and that’s something we can see in every game he plays.”
