Italian is favourite to coach Chelsea next season

As it stands, Antonio Conte is the odds-on favourite to become Chelsea’s coach next season, according to Sky Sports.

The Blues have reportedly agreed a deal in principle with the current coach of Italy’s national squad and former Juventus boss.

Conte’s contract with Italy expires after the 2016 European Championship and, therefore, the Italian will be free to move to Stamford Bridge, without any compensation needed to be paid to the Italian Football Federation.

The news outlet also quotes Sky Italia’s Valentina Fass, who states Chelsea want to make a decision about their coaching situation by March, and that Conte seems to be ahead but nothing has been decided yet.

Another candidate for the job has been Diego Simeone, who was claimed to have an agreement with the Blues earlier this month. However, Sky reports he’s planning to stay with Atletico Madrid.

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri was another contender for the Chelsea job, but he is set to stay with the Italian champions as they prepare to offer him a new contract.

Whoever coaches the Blues next season, that man will become the tenth Chelsea boss under Roman Abramovich since he took over the club in 2004. The other ones have been: Claudio Ranieri, Jose Mourinho (2), Avram Grant, Felipe Scolari, Guus Hiddink (2), Carlo Ancelotti, Andre Villas-Boas, Roberto Di Matteo, and Rafa Benitez.
