Liverpool got very close to signing Alex Teixeira during the January transfer market, but now the Brazilian looks set to join Jiangsu Suning in the Chinese Super League.
According to Italian sports news outlet Calciomercato, the Chinese club has found an agreement for the Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder, claiming the 26-year-old has put the pen on his contract.
The Ukraine side rejected bids from Liverpool up to £27 million for their Brazilian star, with Jurgen Klopp desperately hunting for a creative force to reignite the Reds.
The Anfield club gave up their hunt for Teixeira as Shakthar wanted at least £35 million for him, but Liverpool were planning to again bid for him during the summer of 2016.
These plans seem to have come to an abrupt ending, with the 26-year-old ready to join Atletico’s Jackson Martinez, Inter’s Fredy Guarin, Roma’s Gervinho and Chelsea’s Ramires in a Chinese adventure.
The Brazilian has provided 22 goals and three in 15 league appearances for Shakhtar this season and was always on Chelsea’s wishlist. Jiangsu Suning finished in ninth place last season.
