Manchester United legend Andrei Kanchelskis has advised club manager Louis Van Gaal to start sidelined winger Memphis Depay.
Kanchelskis believes that the Dutchman has the potential to become the best winger in the world.
The 21-year old signed for a reported fee of £25 million from Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven in the summer, but has failed to live up to the expectations in his debut season at Old Trafford.
He has managed only 12 league starts for the Red Devils this season, and his last start came in the 2-1 defeat to Norwich City in December.
The Dutch international has managed to score three goals in all competitions in his United career up till now.
Kanchelskis, speaking exclusively to 888Sport.com, said:
“He is a very good player. He’s a skilful winger with good crossing ability and a great change of pace.
“He has the potential to become the best winger in the world.”
Kanchelskis spent four years at Old Trafford from 1991 to 1995. The Russian winger scored 48 goals in 145 appearances for United and won two Premier League titles with the club.
He was sold to Everton in 1995 after he fell out with Sir Alex Ferguson.
Manchester United are currently ranked fifth in the Premier League with 40 points, five behind Tottenham and Arsenal, seven behind Manchester City and ten behind league leaders Leicester City.
