Chelsea are keeping tabs on Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, according to a report in Daily Star. The 28-year old, who is currently playing for Sampdoria on a loan move, is in the last year of his contract with Inter and will be a free agent in the summer.
Ranocchia previously played under Chelsea’s future manager Antonio Conte for the Italian national team. According to the report, Conte identifies Ranocchia as an ideal replacement for John Terry, who is set to depart from Stamford Bridge in summer.
Premier League club Liverpool were also linked with a move for the 28-year-old in January.
Meanwhile, French newspaper L’Equipe has claimed that Chelsea made an unsuccessful bid worth around £70 million last summer to sign Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba. According to the report, the Blues made the bid too late in the transfer window, and the player’s representatives refused to rush the deal.
The 23-year old is expected to leave Juventus this summer with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Real Madrid interested in his services.
