Manchester United line up a move for ‘New Vidic’

Manchester United are eyeing up a move for Torino defender Nikola Maksimovic, according to latest reports. The Serbian defender has been hailed as ‘the New Nemanja Vidic’ in football circles.

talkSPORT claims that the Red Devils have joined Tottenham and West Ham United in the pursuit of 24-year old. Both London clubs reportedly attempted to sign the defender during the January transfer window, but he opted to stay with the Serie A club.

He signed for Torino from Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade in 2013, and his current deal with the Serie A club runs until 2018.

Maksimovic’s playing style has been likened to that of his compatriot Nemanja Vidic, who moved to United 2006. He went on to play for the Red Devils for eight years and also captained the side.

The Red Devils, who signed Matteo Darmian from Torino last summer, are in the market for a centre-back and Maksimovic could prove to be a shrewd purchase for the club. On top, the 24-year old can also play as a central midfielder.
