The Europa League is not the only battleground where Liverpool and Manchester United are facing off against each other this week.
Daily Star claims that both clubs are involved in a battle to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze. The 23-year old, who scored the winner in the FIFA World Cup final in 2014, has struggled with injuries this season and has made only 11 appearances for Bayern this season.
He finds himself on the fringes of the Bayern squad, and according to the report, Bayern’s new boss Carlo Ancelotti will allow him to leave the club in the summer.
Jurgen Klopp, who has worked with Gotze at Borussia Dortmund, is eager to bring him to Anfield. However, he will face competition from arch rivals Manchester United, while Real Madrid and Juventus are also said to be keeping tabs on the situation.
Bayern signed Gotze from Dortmund by activating his release clause of €37 million in 2013. He has won two Bundesliga titles during his time at the club, andis valued at £31million by the Bundesliga giants.
