Manchester United are in search of a new star striker, and have been linked to the likes of Edinson Cavani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gonzalo Higuain.
According to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli on Tribal Football, possible Red Devils’ future boss Jose Mourinho held a meeting with Higuain’s brother and agent Nicolas.
They reportedly struck an agreement in principle on a five-year deal worth £7.9 million per season for the Argentine and current Napoli striker, with Giulianelli claiming United is preparing an £85 million offer.
Higuain has scored 27 goals in 29 Serie A appearances this season, while also hitting the net twice in five Europa League appearances for the Partenopei.
The 29-year-old joined Napoli in 2013 from Real Madrid, as the Italian club payed a £28.5 million transfer fee to Los Blancos, who originally brought the striker to Europe from River Plate in 2007.
Regarding Ibrahimovic, United are facing huge competition from Chelsea. According to Foot Mercato, the Blues have already made an offer of £20 million over two years to the 34-year-old star striker, who is out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season
