According to Bleacher Report, Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle for Borussia Monchengladbach star midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Bleacher Report Insider Dean Jones revealed that talks between the Gunners and the Switzerland international have been going on for at least one month and that a personal agreement has been reached.
However, Arsenal still have to come to terms with the 23-year-old’s club, who are said to value Xhaka at £35 million. Wenger has made a new defensive midfielder one of his top priorities to bolster his squad for next season and Xhaka is the Frenchman’s top target, but Wenger wants to chip away at Monchengladbach’s asking price for Xhaka.
Therefore, the Gunners could still lose out on the 23-year-old, who has provided three goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances this season, while also appearing in all six Champions League fixtures for the club in a group with Manchester City, Juventus and Sevilla.
Xhaka joined Borussia Monchengladbach from Swiss giants FC Basel in 2012 for only £6.75 million and has been capped 39 times for the Swiss national team, scoring six goals.
