Mourinho will replace Louis Van Gaal, who still has one year left in deal with the Red Devils, at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese manager won Premier League and League Cup with Chelsea last season, but he was sacked by the West London club in December following a disastrous first half of the season, which left the Blues struggling in the bottom half of the table.
