Liverpool facing competition for American starlet, holding talks for La Liga defender

Liverpool face competition from Real Madrid and Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund starlet Christian Pulisic, according to The Daily Mail.

The 17-year-old made his debut for the USA in March and was promoted to Dortmund’s senior team in January. Since, the attacking midfielder has already scored twice for the Bundesliga giants, while impressing coach Thomas Tuchel with his mature play.

It is claimed that the Reds are unlikely to make a move this summer, with coach Jurgen Klopp taking a long-term view, looking to monitor his progress over the next season before sanctioning any deal.

Meanwhile, officials from Liverpool will travel to Spain on Sunday to hold talks with Valencia over a move for defender Shkodran Mustafi, according to Superdeporte (via Daily Express).

Klopp is looking to find a defensive partner for Schalke 04’s Joel Matip, who is set to join the Reds on a free transfer in the summer, and Mustafi has impressed in Spain, recording 42 total appearances for Valencia.

The 24-year-old German joined the Everton youth ranks from Hamburg on a free transfer in 2009, making his professionel debut with the Toffees in a Europa League encounter with BATE Borisov.

Mustafi was later sold to Sampdoria, before joining La Liga side Valencia in 2014 for £6 million and making his international debut. The German was part of his country’s World Cup triumph in Brazil the same summer.

In other Liverpool news, Mediaset Sport (via Calciomercato) claim that Klopp has a £23.5 million offer ready for Inter winger Ivan Perisic, who has scored six goals in his first Serie A season.
