Memphis Depay arrived amid much fanfare at Old Trafford in a £25 million deal from PSV Eindhoven last summer.
However, the 22-year-old suffered failed miserably in his debut season in the Premier League and now, according to the reports, United are desperate to offload the player in the summer.
United manager Louis Van Gaal has been pursuing Southampton star Sadio Mane for a long time now, and Daily Star has reported that the Red Devils are contemplating a swap deal involving Depay and Mane.
Saints boss Ronald Koeman is said to be a huge admirer of his compatriot and even attempted to sign him before he moved to United. Furthermore, United made an official bid to sign Mane during last summer, but their approach was turned down by the Saints.
After failing to hit the heights of the previous season for the majority of the current season, Mane has scored four goals in his last five games for the Saints. Depay, on the other hand, has failed to score a league goal since November.
The Dutch international was not included in United’s squad for the FA Cup semi-final against Everton and it seems like he doesn’t feature in Van Gaal’s plans at the moment.
