Premier League’s relegation battle is heating up: who will stay up?

With just a couple of matches left to play in this season’s Premier League, the relegation battle is heating up massively. So who will stay up: Norwich City, Sunderland, or Newcastle United?

With just 16 points from 34 matches and conceding 65 goals, Aston Villa are already certain of playing in The Championship next season. Three teams are battling to remain in England’s top flight, with two of them joining the Villains in the second tier.

Newcastle are currently ranked 19th with 29 points and four matches left to play. The Magpies appointed top coach Rafa Benitez to save their season but have won just one of their six fixtures with the Spaniard in charge.

Their remaining schedule is:

Liverpool (away)
Crystal Palace (home)
Aston Villa (away)
Tottenham (home)

Sunderland are ranked 18th with 30 points and five matches remaining. The Black Cats have been above the relegation zone on just three occasions all season, but beat Norwich 3-0 on the road last weekend.

Their remaining schedule is:

Arsenal (home)
Stoke City (away)
Chelsea (home)
Everton (home)
Watford (away)

Norwich are ranked 17th with 31 points and four matches left to play. The Canaries left the relegation zone after wins against West Brom and Newcastle, but lost against Sunderland at home last weekend.

Their remaining schedule is:

Arsenal (away)
Manchester United (home)
Watford (home)
Everton (away)

Conclusion: Sunderland seem to have the upper hand with one more match left to play and, on paper, the easiest schedule of the three clubs fighting to stay in the Premier League.
