Last summer transfer window, various media outlets reported that Manchester United had made a bid for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos. In the end, nothing came out of it and many dismissed the reports as figments of media’s imagination.

Now, the 30-year-old has confirmed that there was a genuine interest from United in his services last summer and he even considered joining the Premier League club. However, he revealed that he didn’t want to leave the La Liga giants once he settled his differences with the club.

“There was an offer from United,” the 30-year-old told COPE (via Sky Sports). “I considered changing for a while but Real Madrid was always my priority and there were no economic reasons.

“Did I feel cheated [by Madrid]? No, but I did feel disappointed for a while. There were some troubles that came to an end.”

Ramos has also urged his national teammate, United goalkeeper David de Gea, to join him at Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid have maintained a long-term interest in De Gea and their move to sign him last summer collapsed in the final hours of the transfer window.

De Gea has signed a new long-term contract with the Red Devils this season, but he is still being linked with a move to Madrid by the media.

Speaking on Spanish radio show El Partido de las 12, Ramos said: “The best [players] have to be here and if the people upstairs believe that they have to come, for me De Gea is one of the best.”

De Gea was selected in the PFA Team of the Year this week.
