Arsenal complete midfielder signing

Arsenal have completed the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka in a reported £35m deal, the club have confirmed.

The Gunners have been linked with the Swiss star for months, and with the end of the Premier League season, boss Arsene Wenger appears to have moved quickly in the transfer market to ensure he does not miss out on another big name signing, as he has done in previous seasons.

Wenger has received criticism in the past for not spending big in Summer transfer windows, but this move could signify a new approach, as they look to go one better than their 2nd place finish this term.

Xhaka is reported to have signed a 5-year-deal that will see the 23-year-old earn £110,000 per week.

Wenger told the official club website: “We have been watching him for a long time now and he is a player who will add quality to our squad. We wish Granit a good Euro 2016 with Switzerland and look forward to welcoming him to Arsenal ahead of next season.”

Arsenal fans will get an opportunity to see the player in add to his 41 international caps in this Summers Euro 2016 tournament, where Switzerland face Albania, France, and Romania in Group A.

For Monchengladbach has appeared 28 times in the Bundesliga this year, netting three goals. For former Basel player has been an ever-present in the German sides line-up since joining four seasons ago.
