Manchester United to compete with Arsenal for Premier League striker

Manchester United and Arsenal are set to battle it out for the signing of Watford striker Odion Ighalo.

According to a report in Daily Star, the Hornets are willing to cash on their striker and will listen to the offers in summer. The 26-year-old has scored 14 goals in his debut season in the Premier League and has prompted interested from a number of clubs across Europe.

Atletico Madrid have been linked with the Nigeria international previously and West Ham are also said to be interested in him.

Watford sports consultant Nicola Salerno said: “Everything will depend on what offers we get for Ighalo. He is an extraordinary player who could interest a lot of clubs.”

During the January transfer window, Ighalo claimed that it is his dream to play for the Red Devils.

Manchester United have also been linked with Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Mario, according to Portuguese source A Bola.

The 23-year-old central midfielder has been in impressive form for his club this season and has scored seven goals in 37 appearances.

He has a £47million release clause in his contract, but United are expecting to conclude a deal for around £24.5 million.
