Manchester United to lose battle for star striker, close to completing massive transfer

Real Madrid are set to beat the Manchester clubs to the signing of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, with Karim Benzema set to leave the Santiago Bernabeu, according to The Daily Star.

The Poland international has scored 41 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions for the recently crowned Bundesliga champions and is rated at £80 million by the club.

Lewandowski recently extended his contract at Bayern, but rumours have been aplenty all season long that he wants a new challenge, definitely after the Bundesliga club failed to win the Champions League this season.

However, there’s also good news for United fans. The Red Devils are close to completing a £63 million move for Benfica midfielder Renato Sanches, with the club paying £31.5 million up front and £31.5 million in add ons, according to BT Sport (via Daily Star).

Sanches has emerged as one of the best midfield talents in European football after making his senior debut for Benfica this season. He has made 23 senior league appearances for his club this season. His performances for his club also earned him a call-up for the Portugal national team earlier this year.
