Premier League flop striker makes list of Europe’s best super-subs

Christian Benteke has been one of the biggest disappointments of the season, as the Belgian was unable to live up to the big expectations at Liverpool after a £32.5 million transfer from Aston Villa in the summer.

The Belgium international has scored only eight Premier League goals, after falling out of favour with coach Jurgen Klopp, who replaced Brendan Rodgers at the start of October.

Benteke is primed to leave Anfield during the 2016 summer transfer window, with a number of teams interested in his services, like Leicester City, West Ham, and Juventus.

However, despite being unable to live up to the expectations at Liverpool, the 25-year-old has proven to be one of Europe’s best super-subs, as Benteke has provided five goals and two assists in 14 games as a substitute.

Only one player in Europe’s five biggest competitions (England, Spain, Italy, Germany, France) has done better, as Atletico’s Angel Correa has provided nine goals + assists, scoring five and assisting four. With Robert Lewandowski and Francesco Totti also providing seven goals + assists in fewer games than Benteke.

The full top 10:

1. Angel Correa (Atletico) – 5 goals + 4 assists = 9 (18 subs)

2. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern) – 7 goals + 0 assists = 7 (3 subs)

3. Francesco Totti (AS Roma) – 4 goals + 3 assists = 7 (10 subs)

4. Christian Benteke (Liverpool) – 5 goals + 2 assists = 7 (14 subs)

5. Alvaro Morata (Juventus) – 4 goals + 3 assists = 7 (17 subs)

6. Jese (Real Madrid) – 3 goals + 4 assists = 7 (20 subs)

7. Kevin Lasagna (Carpi) – 5 goals + 2 assists = 7 (28 subs)

8. Lucas Vazquez (Real Madrid) – 2 goals + 4 assists = 6 (15 subs)

9. Adrian Ramos (Borussia Dortmund) – 4 goals + 2 assists = 6 (18 subs)

10. Kamil Grosicki (Rennes) – 6 goals + 0 assists = 6 (19 subs)
