John Terry contemplates different kind of role at Chelsea

On Friday, Chelsea announced that they have offered a one-year deal to skipper John Terry.

Terry’s current deal expires in the summer, and he was initially expected to depart from the club after the Blues had decided against offering him a new deal back in January.

However, a spokesperson for the Blues announced in the press conference before the club’s game against Leicester City that Chelsea have offered Terry a new deal after meeting him and his agent.

“(Director) Marina Granovskaia and (chairman) Bruce Buck met with John and his agent this week and offered him a one-year contract extension. With it coming so late in the season, this is a big decision for John and his family and it is something that they are now considering,” he said.

But, now it appears that the new deal is not a regular contract and contains some unknown conditions. Following the announcement from the club, Terry took to Instagram and thanked fans and friends for their wishes.

He also stated that he needs time before making a decision as the offer on the table is a different role.

The 35-year-old has previously stated his desire to stay at the West London club and now it would make no sense for him to decline the opportunity to do so.

The current situation begs the question what sort of conditions Chelsea have put on the new deal offered to Terry.
