Jose Mourinho has been told by Manchester United that he is their first choice to replace Louis Van Gaal if the current manager leaves Old Trafford this summer, according to Sky Sports.
The Portuguese, who has been without a job since he was sacked by Chelsea in December, has already claimed that he will be getting back into football management before the next season and has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for months.
However, despite numerous reports claiming he will join the Red Devils from the start of the 2016/2017 season, there have also been reports stating Van Gaal will stay on until the summer of 2017.
Still, the Dutchman isn’t very popular, as two star players have stated their wish to be at United only if Van Gaal is replaced on the bench.
One of them is David De Gea. The Spanish goalkeeper is set to leave United if Van Gaal stays on as manager, but he will stay at Old Trafford if the Dutchman departs, with Real Madrid at the front of the queue to lure him in, according to The Guardian.
On top, Manchester United are set to target a move for Schalke forward Leroy Sane after watching the midfielder on the final day of the Bundesliga season, according to The Daily Mail.
Schalke have denied reports Sane has a buyout clause of £28 million and say he is worth closer to £40 million.
