The most stunning fact about Leicester City’s title triumph

Leicester City were crowned Premier League champions for the first time in their club’s history, after Chelsea held Tottenham to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

All the Leicester players gathered at Jamie Vardy’s place to watch the Spurs’ game and went crazy when the final whistle blew. Just check the footage here.

The Foxes are now seven points clear with only two games remaining, securing the league crown before fixtures against Everton and the Blues.

A lot of impressing stats can be put together about the Foxes’ outstanding and legendary season. Like the fact that they won 14 games with a one-goal margin, the most in the Premier League. Or that Leicester scored 61 goals from inside the box. Or that they won 11 penalties. Or that they registered 828 successful tackles and 750 interceptions.

But one fact stands out… It was reported in a tweet by The Sun:

May 2nd 1993: Peter Schmeichel wins 1st PL title aged 29

May 2nd 2016: Kasper Schmeichel wins 1st PL title aged 29

How in the world could this happen? For a father and son to win their first Premier League titel at exactly the same day and exactly the age, but 23 year apart…

Peter Schmeichel did it in his second season at Manchester United, who paid £563k for the Dane. Meanwhile, Kasper Schmeichel cost the Foxes £1.26 million and played his fifth season at the King Power Stadium.
