Chelsea facing stiff competition for Serie A winger, in risk of losing out on big transfer target

Like Manchester United and Manchester City, Chelsea are primed for a big summer. The Blues have a new coach coming in, Antonio Conte, and want to take revenge for a very poor Premier League season.

With Conte’s excellent relationships in Italy, Chelsea have been linked with a number of Serie A stars. The biggest name out there has been AS Roma’s Radja Nainggolan.

The Belgium international has been linked with a summer switch to Stamford Bridge for several months now, with an initial offer of £27.6 million rejected by the Serie A club.

The Blues are still chasing Nainggolan, with fellow internationals Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois trying to convince him to join the club, according to ESPN FC. However, Roma coach Luciano Spalletti says he is confident the player will not leave the club this summer.

Roma are ready to offer Nainggolan a new contract to tempt him into staying. The 28-year-old currently earns around £2.5 million-a-year and the club are ready to increase that amount to around £3.2 million-a-year.

Meanwhile, Chelsea want to sign Lazio winger Antonio Candreva, who is playing under Conte for Italy at Euro 2016, but face competition from Inter for his signature, according to talkSPORT.

Nerazzurri boss Roberto Mancini has identified the Italy international as his primary transfer target this summer. Napoli and Atletico Madrid were linked earlier in the summer, but Chelsea are now emerging as genuine contenders for Candreva.

Lazio reportedly have put a price-tag from £15.8 million to £19.7 million on the 29-year-old, who provided 10 goals and 4 assists in 30 league appearances for the Rome club. He joined Lazio in 2013 from Udinese for £6.2 million.
