Manchester United pull ahead in Paul Pogba race with record bid considered

Where will Paul Pogba play next season? It’s probably the biggest question of the summer transfer market. According to a report by Spanish source AS (via Football-Italia), the French superstar could land at Old Trafford.

The report claims the Red Devils have pulled ahead in the race to sign the Juventus midfielder and are willing to pay a record £97.5 million to land the France international.

As it stands, Gareth Bale is the most expensive football player on the planet. In 2011, Real Madrid broke their own record set in 2009, when they paid £80 million for Cristiano Ronaldo to United, by paying £86 million to Tottenham for the Wales international.

If United are seriously about bidding £97.5 million, the club would set the new transfer record for a player that walked from Old Trafford to Turin on a free transfer in 2012.

The report claims the 23-year-old would receive a contract worth £9.8 million per season net and that the Red Devils are also prepared to pay Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola £20.3 million commission.

Real Madrid are known to have started talks for Pogba as well, which was confirmed by Raiola in an interview with Marca (via Sky Sports). Last season, the midfielder provided 10 goals and 16 assists in 49 appearances in all competitions for Juventus. He’s currently playing for France at Euro 2016.
