Arsene Wenger is hoping to add enough quality to his squad in order to launch a strong bid to win his first Premier League title since 2004.
However, Arsenal’s deal for Switzerland international Granit Xhaka seems like ages ago, with the Gunners struggling to lure their biggest transfer target to the Etihad.
Now, they were dealt another blow as Juventus have rejected a £25 million approach for 21-year-old defender Daniele Rugani. The Gunners also tried to sign the Italian last year, according to Calciomercato, but the Old Lady are not planning to let Italy’s biggest defensive talent leave Turin.
Still, the Gunners have an alternative defender to hunt, as they are considering making a move for Greek defender Kostas Manolas, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football-Italia).
The 25-year-old, valued at £30 million, is also wanted by Chelsea, meaning Arsenal will have to make a strong push for the Greece international. AS Roma are keen to hand Manolas a new deal, but he is reluctant to sign his contract renewal.
The Giallorossi are offering £1.7 million per season plus bonuses, but the Greek’s agent is looking to negotiate a better deal. Selling Manolas is still an option of last resort, as have to give 50 per cent of the sale money to the player’s former club Olympiacos.
