Arsenal are rumoured to be keen on the signing of former captain Thomas Vermaelen, who’s currently under contract with La Liga giants FC Barcelona.
The Belgium international reportedly wants to return to the Gunners after spending the last two seasons on the bench at the Blaugrana. Vermaelen has been struggling with injuries during his time in Spain and is keen to return to Arsenal, after showing he’s ready to play on a high level once again with a solid performance at Euro 2016.
Vermaelen has also snubbed a move to West Ham, which have also made contact for the 30-year-old, while links with Serie A club AS Roma appear to have ended, according to a report by Spanish source Sport (via talkSPORT).
Barcelona are keen to sell the Belgium international after signing French defenders Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne, while Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been looking to add a new centre-back to his defence.
Earlier this month, Sport claimed that the Blaugrana will allow the player to leave for £8.3 million, which is a loss for Barcelona as they brought him to La Liga in 2014 from Arsenal for £16.2 million.
