Brazilian source UOL Esporte (via Football-Italia) claim Brazilian starlet Gabriel Barbosa intends on accepting an offer from Serie A champions Juventus, with a £16.8 million deal with Santos to be sealed on Monday.
The Old Lady had made a bid of £15.1 million for the 19-year-old, who is nicknamed Gabigol, but his club wanted one in the region of £16.8 million, with Juventus now ready to strike a deal.
Several months ago, Chelsea made a £25 million offer for the talented forward. However, this was rejected by both the player and Santos.
According to the report en translated by Football-Italia, the big difference is that the Brazilian giants only own 40 per cent of Gabigol’s contract and that the Blues offer was £25 million for the entire contract. That means only 40 per cent of the fee would go to Santos.
Instead, Juventus appear to have offered £16.8 million to buy the club’s portion of the contract, meaning it is not the full transfer fee for the 19-year-old, which in some way looks like Barcelona’s Neymar transfer construction.
Meanwhile, Gabigol himself also owns 40 per cent of his contract, while Doyen Sports own the other 20 per cent. This means the player has a big say in his own future, and accepting Juve’s offer while rejecting Chelsea’s has to be seen as a statement about his preferences.
