Manchester City confident of signing star defender, Everton lining up replacement

Manchester City are confident of sealing the £50 million signing of Everton defender John Stones, with terms set to be finalised as soon as the end of the week, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

If this deal gets agreed upon, John Stones will become the joined-most expensive defender in the world. At the moment, David Luiz is the lone holder of the record, having left Chelsea for Paris Saint-German in a massive £50 deal million in 2014.

However, the Citizens are prepared to match the Ligue 1 champions’ record to secure Stones’ signature. The transfer would set a new English record, just pipping the £49 million the Citizens paid Liverpool for Raheem Sterling.

Chelsea and Manchester United were also linked with a move for Stones, who’s projected to be the next star English defender, despite receiving a bunch of criticism and losing his starting spot at the Toffees last season.

In addition, City could lose Eliaquim Mangala to Valencia this summer as they target John Stones and bring Jason Denayer into the first team, as reported by The Sun.

Meanwhile, Everton are set to make a £14 million bid for Sunderland’s Lamine Kone as they step up their plans to replace Stones in their defensive unit, claims The Sun.
