Manchester City set to seal record move for defender, showing interest in German star

Manchester City and Everton are close to agreeing a deal which will see John Stones become the most expensive defender in the world, according to a report by talkSPORT.

At the moment, David Luiz is the holder of the record, having left Chelsea for Paris Saint-German in a massive £50 deal million in 2014. However, the Citizens are prepared to break the Ligue 1 champions’ record to secure Stones’ signature, with the fee for the 22-year-old expected to be around £53 million.

Chelsea and Manchester United were also linked with a move for Stones, who’s projected to be the next star English defender, despite receiving a bunch of criticism and losing his starting spot at the Toffees last season.

Meanwhile, City are also considering a move for Bayern Munich defender Joshua Kimmich, with the Premier League outfit set to start the bidding at £20 million, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that Pep Guardiola sees the 21-year-old, who played under the Spanish boss at Bayern last season and impressed at Euro 2016 with Germany, the ideal long-term replacement for City’s right-back slot.
