Everton have made a shock approach for Wolfsburg winger Julian Draxler, according to the Independent.
The 22-year-old, this week, expressed his desire to leave his club in an interview with German publication Bild. The German media outlet also claimed that Arsenal and Juventus are interested in the player, but that he prefers a move to the North London club.
However, the Bundesliga club later issued a statement and made it clear, in stern words, that the German international won’t be leaving the club this summer. It appears that the statement hasn’t discouraged the Toffees as they have approached Wolfsburg regarding the availability of the player.
Nevertheless, Draxler reportedly has a £63 million release clause in his contract, and Wolfsburg will be helpless if any interested club trigger the clause. The Merseysiders, following Farhad Moshiri’s takeover in February, are prepared to spend a considerable amount of money on transfers this summer.
Draxler signed for Wolfsburg from Schalke last summer in a deal worth around £28 million. His current contract with his club runs until 2020.
