In arguably the biggest Premier League fixture of this weekend, Liverpool will host Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday. The Reds will come into the game high on confidence after a good week on the pitch. During midweek, they defeated Hoffenheim at home to secure their berth in the Champions League group stage.
On the domestic front, the Reds started the season with a disappointing 3-3 draw at Watford and followed that up a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Crystal Palace last weekend.
Meanwhile, the Gunners will come into the game on the back of a disappointing 1-0 loss at Stoke. It was the same old story for the Gunners as they dominated the proceedings at Bet365 Stadium, but ended up on the losing side.
Arsene Wenger has played players out of position in the opening two games, but returns of Laurent Koscielny and Alexis Sanchez this week will definitely strengthen the Gunners’ starting eleven.
Both sides are not really known for their defensive capabilities and we expect a high-scoring thriller on Sunday. Even the recent history of this fixture strongly indicates that we should expect to see at least four goals in the game.
Last season, the Reds did a league double over their opponents and won the corresponding fixture 3-1.
Liverpool vs Arsenal – Team News
Adam Bogdan, Nathaniel Clyne, and Adam Lallana all have been ruled out for the Reds while Barcelona-target Philippe Coutinho is only expected to return after the international break.
As mentioned above, Koscielny and Sanchez will return for the Gunners. Santi Cazorla remains the only injury concern in Arsene Wenger’s side.
Liverpool vs Arsenal – Match Facts
Six out of last eight instances of this fixture have witnessed four or more goals.
The Reds have lost only one of their last six meetings with the Gunners.
The Gunners have scored in 16 of their last 19 away games in the league.
Liverpool vs Arsenal – Match odds
The Reds are favourites to take all the three points at home at 6/5 odds. An Arsenal win can get you 5/2 odds, but we are backing a high-scoring draw in this game as our prediction. We think that a draw at the best odds of 14/5 at Betfair provides the best value for money in this market.
Liverpool vs Arsenal – Correct Score odds
A 1-1 draw is the most favourite outcome at 29/4 odds. However, we are going for a 2-2 draw as our prediction in this game. A 2-2 draw can get you best odds of 23/2 at 188bet.
Liverpool vs Arsenal – Over/Under goals odds
In this game, we are not going to bet on a traditional +-2.5 goals bet, but rather back more than 3.5 goals in the game as our prediction. Betfair is giving best odds of 6/4 for our betting tip in this market.
Liverpool vs Arsenal – Anytime Goalscorer odds
Sadio Mane has scored two in two and he is the favourite to score at 7/4 odds. Reds teammate Roberto Firmino is also available at similar odds.
For the Gunners, Alexandre Lacazette is the favourite to score at 21/10, but our preview is going to back Alexis Sanchez as our prediction in this one. We think that the Chilean would be desperate to be on the pitch after sitting out the first two games, and at the best odds of 5/2 at Betfred, he is good value for money.
