Alex Iwobi has signed a new contract at Arsenal that keeps him with the club until 2022, the club announced on Friday.
Iwobi broke into the first team in 2015 after graduating from the club’s Hale End Academy and, the 22-year-old who joined Arsenal aged 6, was delighted to commit his future to the club despite speculation linking him elsewhere.
“It’s always been my childhood dream to represent Arsenal, from young,” Iwobi told the club’s official website.
“To get an extended contract is an amazing feeling and I hope I’m doing the Arsenal family proud as well as my family.
Head coach Unai Emery said: “I’m very pleased Alex has signed a new contract with us.
“He is a great example of a player who can succeed from the Academy through hard work and I look forward to working with him and our other talented young players in the squad.”
Iwobi has played 98 times for Arsenal, scoring nine goals and was part of Nigeria’s squad to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
