Arsenal are interested in bringing Barcelona youngster Gerard Deulofeu to the Emirates Stadium, according to talkSPORT.
The young forward has been likened to reigning Ballon D’Or holder Lionel Messi and has been earmarked by the Blaugrana to make an appearance in the club’s senior squad this season. Deulofeu is just 17 and cannot sign a professional contract until next March, when he turns 18.
The Spaniard has a youth contract with two years left to run and now has a buyout clause of £3m on his existing deal. The Blaugrana are desperate to draw up terms for the Spaniard to sign as soon as he turns 18 to avoid Arsenal using the contract issues to bring in Deulofeu.
Arsenal exploited the issues to sign Cesc Fabregas back in 2003 and Gunners chief scout Steve Rowley has been to see Deulofeu at the under 19 European Championships this summer.

Yossi a gamble.
Arsenal took a gamble on signing Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun on loan from Stamford Bridge by not holding a medical with the Israeli, Metro reports.
The midfielder completed his season long loan deal on transfer deadline day and because the transfer was sealed so close to the window, there was no time left to perform the medical. The former Liverpool midfielder signed and faxed his contract at Heathrow Airport before he jetted out to Israel to link up with his national team-mates.
Benayoun missed most of last season with a serious Achilles injury and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger may be taking a risk on the fitness of the 31 year old. The Israeli international completed a full 90 minutes for his country in a 1-0 defeat to Greece and is in line to make his Gunners debut in the weekend’s fixture against Swansea.
Vermaelen has surgery.
Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen underwent surgery yesterday on his left Achilles and will be out for two months, The Mirror reports.
The defender is one of Arsene Wenger’s key players at the Emirates and the worry about the Belgian’s health forced Wenger’s hand in performing the surgery. Vermaelen’s injury is coupled with the devastating news that midfielder Jack Wilshere could be out up for three months.
Vermaelen’s injury came from the Champions League second leg qualifier against Udinese, which ruled him out of the Gunners’ embarrassing defeat to Manchester United. The 25 year old is hoping to be back quickly to help the Gunners get back on track after a shocking start.
New signing Per Mertesacker is expected to slot straight into the central defence after the Vermaelen blow and could be coupled by fellow new deadline signings Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun and left back Andre Santos.
