Downing confident of reproducing England form with Liverpool

Liverpool winger Stewart Downing is ready to follow up his impressive England performances and show Liverpool fans what he can really do, liverpoolfc.tv reports.

Downing was some people’s man-of-the-match against Sweden on Tuesday night, supplying the cross that led to England’s only goal. The winger signed for £20m from Aston Villa this summer and feels that he has not been in peak form for the Reds so far this season. The former Middlesbrough man believes that his performance internationally gave him a lot more confidence and he is aiming to make a big mark on Liverpool’s forthcoming fixtures, starting with the Sunday clash against title rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Downing said: ‘I’m feeling full of confidence. I think the Sweden game I did quite well. It’s my aim to carry that form on. I’ve been a bit quiet in the past few weeks at Liverpool, I’m the first to admit that, after a good start. Hopefully, we can kick on now’.
