Jack Wilshere has been hit by the news that he could miss the rest of the Premier League season, reports The
Wilshere, 20, broke down in training last week, just as it his rehabilitation from a stress fracture in his ankle was nearing completion. However, scans this week have shown that he has suffered a smaller stress fracture in the same ankle, and whilst no time period has been set on his recovery, there are fears amongst the Arsenal medical staff that, in the worst case scenario, he will not play another game for the club this season.
There is speculation that manager Arsene Wenger will not rush Wilshere back even if he approaches full fitness towards the end of the season, so his involvement in Euro 2012 could also be in doubt. Wilshere’s initial stress fracture required surgery to correct, but as yet the club is hopeful that recovery is possible without resorting to this, which could delay any return even further.
