Arsenal have emerged as the favourites to sign promising Blackburn winger Junior Hoilett in the summer transfer window, Metro
Hoilett is out of contract in the summer and wants to leave the Lancashire side after a season of eye-catching displays to attract big interest. Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all interested, but reports suggest Arsenal are the main front-runners for the Blackburn star. German giants Bayern Munich are also linked with Hoilett, but the Canadian is reportedly not interested in leaving the Premier League.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is thought to be an admirer of Hoilett’s pace and trickery with his style of play resembling current Gunners widemen Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Blackburn would like Hoilett to sign a new deal, but the club’s on-pitch troubles, as well as the off-pitch worries, may have convinced Hoilett to move away from Ewood Park. Hoilett has scored three goals and contributed with six assists this season, which has helped Blackburn escape the relegation zone.
Hoilett is featured in FIFA’s players to watch list for 2012 and fits the Arsenal criteria of signing young attack-minded players. Wenger could look to sign Hoilett on the cheap this summer and his signature could spell the permanent end of Andrey Arshavin, who signed for Zenit on loan for the rest of the season.
