Falcao returns for Atletico

Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao has recovered from flu and returns to Diego Simeone’s starting line-up for Wednesday’s clash with Real Madrid.

The match at the Vicente Calderon will be the Colombian’s first taste of a Madrid derby, having been ruled out with injury when the sides met at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier in the season, and he will be looking to continue the form that has seen him plunder 28 goals this season – 20 in La Liga and eight in the Europa League.

Falcao was a substitute for last Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Levante at the Ciutat de Valencia due to flu, coming off the bench in the second half and almost getting on the scoresheet twice, but he is now fully fit for a game Atleti cannot afford to lose if they are to maintain their challenge for European football next season.

The former Porto man, nicknamed El Tigre (the tiger), has scored eight goals in his last nine games for Los Colchoneros and has been particularly prolific over the last month at the Calderon, having been on the mark against Granada, Athletic Bilbao, Hannover and Getafe.
