Man City close to Isco capture

Isco will become Manchester City’s third signing of the summer, the Daily Mail has reported, with the Spain youth international due to join up with his former Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini.

City had faced competition for the midfielder from Real Madrid but are expected to confirm the purchase of the 21-year-old, who scored 12 goals under Pellegrini last season and helped Malaga to the Champions League quarter-finals and sixth place in La Liga.

The former Premier League champions have already signed midfielders Jesus Navas, the Sevilla winger, and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fernandinho this summer, with Pellegrini having sanctioned both moves. The already-signed pair have cost City just under £50m and Isco’s £30m buyout clause means that tally is set to rise significantly. City are also said to want a striker to partner Sergio Aguero on a regular basis.

Isco is currently in international duty with the Spain Under-21 side at the European Under-21 Championships, scoring against the Netherlands in the Iberians’ final group game. Spain will play Norway in the semi-finals of the tournament, having topped their group with three wins out of three.
