Fulham confirm Meulensteen departure

Fulham have confirmed that they have parted company with Head Coach Rene Meulensteen and several of the club’s other existing backroom staff, ESPN has reported.

Meulensteen, who was in charge of first-team affairs for 17 matches before Felix Magath was brought in to take over on Friday, leaves along with Alan Curbishley and Ray Wilkins, who were only at the club for a matter of months, as well as Mick Priest and Jonathan Hill.

The exodus has allowed former Bayern Munich and Wolfburg boss Magath to recruit some of his own staff, with Fulham confirming the appointments of Tomas Oral and Werner Leuthard as first-team coach and fitness coach respectively.

The Cottagers are currently bottom of the Premier League and four points from safety. Owner Shahid Khan issued a statement which read: ‘Felix has come to Fulham with purpose and exceptional confidence, and I know he’s extremely pleased to have Tomas Oral and Werner Leuthard join him for the mission ahead.

‘From today forward, the focus is singularly on winning football matches and remaining in the Barclays Premier League. The work has begun.”
