Fulham manager Felix Magath hopes that his side will be facing a tired Chelsea team when the London rivals meet in the Premier League on Saturday, according to Sky
Chelsea were in the Turkey on Wednesday night for a 1-1 draw against Galatasaray in the Champions League and Magath believes that their travel will have taken its toll on the side.
The London derby is a vital fixture for the 60-year-old, who is hoping to inflict defeat on his fatigued opponents.
“When a team has played in the Champions League, it is always an advantage,” Magath said. “We are lucky that Chelsea have had such a long trip to Istanbul to play on Wednesday. It’s a good situation for us.”
The German believes that facing his side less than three days since playing in Turkey will give Fulham a chance despite the Blues being favourites to win the game. The Cottagers currently sit bottom of the Premier League table whilst their opponents on Saturday sit at the summit, 39 points ahead of them.
“It gives us a chance. Chelsea are favourites, everyone knows that, but we’ll try to fight and make a fast game. If we pressurise Chelsea then we have a good chance to win the game,” added Magath.
“It’s an important game for me because it’s my first appearance at Craven Cottage. If we show fighting spirit on the pitch, we can get the crowd behind us.
“At home games the crowd will be the 12th man and that’s what we need. We need all the support we can get.”
