Both Hull City and Sunderland will be sensing an opportunity as they meet at the KC Stadium with a place in the FA Cup semi-finals at stake.
For Hull boss Steve Bruce, this is another chance to get one over his former club, having already managed to do the double over the Black Cats in the Premier League, in which they lie 12th. All of their opponents in the tournament so far have been from the lower leagues, and they have progressed fairly comfortably, although they did need a replay in order to see off Brighton & Hove Albion in round five.
The visitors will now be even more determined to succeed in the FA Cup, having failed to land the Capital One Cup at Wembley. The effort that Sunderland showed in the final against Manchester City was admirable, but two superb strikes in the space of a minute saw their joy turn to despair. Gustavo Poyet will be confident that his side can go through, although he will be hoping to keep all 11 players on the pitch this time around.
The home side will be without striking duo Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long, as they are both cup-tied. Captain Curtis Davies is a doubt after being forced off in the defeat to Newcastle United.
Carlos Cuellar could return to the Sunderland squad after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but goalkeeper Kieren Westwood remains out.
