Everton manager Roberto Martinez has said that Arsenal’s recent defeat to Stoke will have no affect on the team when the two sides meet in the FA Cup on Saturday, according to Sky
The Gunners lost 1-0 to Stoke last weekend and will be hoping that they can bounce back in time to face Everton in the FA Cup quarter-final clash.
The Toffees, on the other hand, go into the match-up on the back of a 1-0 win over West Ham but Martinez believes that the team’s recent fortunes will not have an impact.
“There is never a good or bad time to face a top team. We admire Arsenal immensely for the team they are,” said Martinez.
“They had a disappointing result at the weekend but that does not change anything.
“They can perform without looking at what happened in the previous game.”
Earlier in the season Everton held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates and the Blues boss has called for his team to put in another excellent performance.
“If you want to be winning a competition like the FA Cup you have to find a way of being effective against a team like Arsenal,” added the 40-year-old.
“We need to replicate the level of performance we had at the Emirates earlier in the season.
“I thought first half we played really well but when you are dominant you need to reflect that in the scoreline and that is where we need to improve.”
