Liverpool take on Manchester City in a massively important encounter in front of an electric Anfield crowd, which will help decide where the Premier League title is headed this season.
Like every other game in England this weekend, this match will kick off seven minutes late, as a tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, where 96 Reds supporters lost their lives.
Should Liverpool win this one, it would look increasingly likely that this year could be theirs, after 24 years of hurt. Nine wins in a row have given Brendan Rodgers’ side a fantastic chance of lifting the Premier League trophy for the first time on May 12, with two more Steven Gerrard penalties at West Ham United taking the club’s tally to 90 goals for the season.
Man City are currently lying in third, four points behind their opponents, but crucially they have two games in hand, although defeat here will force them to play catch-up and rely on Liverpool to drop points. They will be confident, however, as they also come into the game in excellent form despite the absence of Sergio Aguero. This Man City side also has the advantage of having previously won a Premier League title.
Daniel Agger could return to the centre of the home side’s defence, but only if Rodgers decides not to stick with Mamadou Sakho. Jose Enrique is Liverpool’s only notable absentee.
Aguero might be in line to make his comeback after five weeks out, but Edin Dzeko is set to keep his place in attack. Matija Nastasic is still out.
